STL Lights up Christmas at Hever CastleBack
Thousands of visitors are flocking to festive events across the country this month in search of that magical Christmas feeling and STL Production Group is one of the companies helping to create that spirit at Hever Castle.
For the last five years the lighting design team at STL has turned the historic buildings and grounds of Hever Castle, near Edenbridge in Kent, into a winter wonderland.
For December only visitors can enjoy a crisp winter’s stroll through the beautifully lit gardens, which lead the way to Father Christmas and a variety of activities.
Festive gobos, colour washes and of course the obligatory pea lights are used by the creative team to light up trees, pathways, buildings, water features, as well as interior and exterior walls.
“Winter wonderland walks largely involve architectural lighting, particularly at venues like Hever Castle, where there are numerous statues, walled gardens, large trees, the mote, ponds, other water features and the castle itself,” explains Iain Austin, Managing Director, STL Production Group.
“When lighting an ancient building and gardens it’s not only essential to ensure we are using creative design but we also have to look at the practicalities of the walk – have we drawn the visitor’s attention to the most prominent areas? Are the pathways fully lit for safety and is every part of the walk visible?
Duncan Leslie, Chief Executive at Hever Castle commented,
“The Christmas lighting is absolutely beautiful, it’s a real highlight to our winter wonderland experience, one that attracts our visitors year after year. We received tremendously positive feedback after last year’s event and are pleased to commission STL once again this year.”
